Jeffrey Smith, MD, PhD
I am a physician scientist and practicing dermatologist focused on translating advances in receptor biology into the clinic. Clinically, I specialize in seeing patients with rare autoimmune skin and connective tissue diseases. In the laboratory, I have a particular interest in G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), which are the target of ~1/3 of FDA approved medications. There are two primary arms to my research focus, and basic science component and translational/clinical component.

Basic Science research
My primary research focus is in basic science. This research is conducted primarily at Harvard Medical School on the quadrangle in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology under the guidance of Professor Andrew
Kruse. I utilize the extensive resources of HMS in conjunction with clinical insights gained from the clinic. This work is supported by the Dermatology Foundation and the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin
Diseases (NIAMS K08AR084617).
